John Imbergamo - The Imbergamo Group
John Imbergamo has a face you will remember with a smile. He leaves you with a lasting and favorable
impression. For the past 31 years you may have met John on the streets or in LoDo’s varied restaurants.
You likely left your encounter better educated about the LoDo dynamic, ready for some really good food, and
comfortable with your new or revived friendship with one of LoDo’s most notable entrepreneurs.
John came to LoDo in 1979 to open Café Giovanni at 15th and Market Streets. He left for a few years and returned in 1990 to found the Imbergamo Group in the Elephant Corral building where he continues to
work. His first major project was the Firehouse on Blake Street where the Rio sits today. His current clients include many favorites: Dixons, Rioja, Panzano, Racines, Elway’s Cherry Creek and Bistro Vendome. John
provides “butts in seats” to his restaurant clients; his job is to get the word out and get people in the door.
LoDo to John is a “neighborhood of characters and interesting people.” He agrees with some that maybe we are “scrubbing it too clean” as the neighborhood evolves into a hospitality destination, and notices that “LoDo
has become the place that people go to experience Denver.” Despite the congestion and occassional parking issues, John loves and participates in Denver as a 24-hour city. He savors LoDo’s “evolution from a drinking
neighborhood to an eating neighborhood, a trend driven by residential density.” As he puts it: “more restaurants are good for the hood.” … And butts in LoDo seats.
